Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Donation Boxes Opened After 50 Days, Foreign Currency Found

The donation boxes and offering chests at the historic Tripura Sundari Templ in Udaipur were opened on Friday after a gap of around one month and 20 days. A total of 17 donation boxes and chests located inside the temple complex were opened in the morning, following which officials began counting the offerings.

The counting process continued throughout the day under the direct supervision of the district administration. Officials maintained strict security and monitoring arrangements to ensure that the entire exercise was conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.

Foreign Currency Found in Mata Tripura Sundari Temple Donation Boxes

Deputy Collector of the Gomati District Magistrate’s Office, Chandrashekhar Chatterjee, said that the offerings included Indian currency as well as foreign money.

Among the foreign currencies recovered from the donation boxes were US dollars and currencies from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Bangladeshi currency was also found during the counting process.

The presence of currencies from several countries indicates the wide reach of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, which attracts devotees and tourists not only from different parts of India but also from abroad. The temple is popularly known as Matabari and is located in Udaipur, Gomati district.

18-Member Team Formed for Transparent Counting

The Gomati district administration constituted a special 18-member team to oversee the counting of the donations.

Officials said the team was assigned to ensure that the counting and recording of the offerings were carried out fairly and systematically. The proceedings remained under close administrative surveillance throughout the day, with security arrangements in place inside the temple premises.

The latest opening of the donation boxes follows the temple’s established practice of periodically opening the chests and accounting for offerings made by devotees.

The temple’s donation system has also adopted digital payment facilities. Devotees can now make offerings through the bank’s QR code, providing an alternative to depositing cash directly into the traditional donation boxes.

The introduction of digital donations has added a modern payment option to the temple’s longstanding religious practices.

According to officials and temple authorities, the presence of foreign currency in the donation boxes reflects the growing attraction of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple among visitors from outside India.

The historic shrine is one of Tripura’s most prominent religious and tourism destinations. Its location in Udaipur and its longstanding religious significance make it an important pilgrimage centre in the state. The temple is also officially presented as a major heritage and religious destination of Tripura.
