Saudi media report raises questions over his whereabouts
Earlier reports from Saudi broadcaster Al-Hadath, citing an Israeli security source, claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei was not in Iran.
The same source alleged that statements being issued in the Supreme Leader’s name were being prepared by senior officials, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Ahmad Vahidi. Such claims have not been independently established.
Mojtaba’s limited public activity had already fuelled speculation. Reports also said he did not appear at his father’s funeral and had not held publicly reported meetings with Iranian ministers.
Earlier reports alleged serious injuries
Questions surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health had also emerged after the February 28 conflict. Previous reports alleged that he suffered significant injuries during the US-Israeli strike that killed his father.
Some accounts claimed he required several surgical procedures and suffered injuries affecting his face and limbs. Other reports suggested that these injuries had affected his ability to speak.

Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran’s Supreme Leader
Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran’s Supreme Leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the February 28 US-Israeli strikes, according to reports. He was subsequently selected to lead the Islamic Republic and took over the country’s most powerful political and religious position.
Before becoming Supreme Leader, Mojtaba was known primarily as a powerful behind-the-scenes figure rather than an elected politician. He had never contested a national election or served as a conventional government minister.
