The NEET-UG 2026 examination will be conducted online from the next academic session, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced on Friday while admitting that the May 3 examination paper had been leaked.
The minister said the government decided to cancel the examination to ensure that undeserving candidates were not selected. He stated that the re-examination will now be held on Sunday, June 21.
According to Pradhan, the National Testing Agency informed the government about irregularities on May 7, following which a decision was taken on May 12 to conduct the examination again.
The NEET-UG examination was earlier held on May 3 across 551 cities in India and 14 international cities. More than 5,400 examination centres had been set up for the nationwide medical entrance test.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its probe into the paper leak case and has so far arrested seven people.
Among those arrested are Mangi Lal Binwal from Rajasthan, his brother Dinesh Binwal, Dinesh’s son Vikas Binwal, Yash Yadav from Gurugram in Haryana, and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik.
All five accused were produced before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, which remanded them to seven days of custody.
The CBI has also arrested Manisha Waghmare, a beautician from Pune, along with Dhananjay Lokhande from Nashik in connection with the case.
