A new leadership chapter began in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council on Wednesday as Runiel Debbarma was sworn in as Chief Executive Member (CEM), along with Chandra Kumar Jamatia as Executive Member (EM) at the Council Bhawan in Khumulwng.
Speaking after the oath-taking, Debbarma laid out his priorities in clear terms, stressing that his administration would function with “sincerity, transparency, and dedication,” with the upliftment of the Tiprasa community at its core. He said the council would immediately focus on accelerating development across ADC areas, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihood generation.
Highlighting a key concern, the new CEM pointed to the council’s financial constraints, stating that the funds currently allocated by the state government are inadequate to meet the growing demands of the tribal population. “We are receiving very limited funds. Despite that, we have worked over the past five years,” he said, adding that he would seek enhanced financial support from both the Centre and Chief Minister Manik Saha. He also noted that with the backing of MLAs, MDCs, and Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma, the council would press for additional resources.
Drawing on his five-year experience as a Member of the District Council, Debbarma expressed confidence in handling the responsibilities of the top post. He assured that development initiatives would be inclusive and reach even the most remote areas, with an emphasis on strengthening grassroots governance.
The swearing-in marks a transition in the TTAADC, with expectations that the new leadership will push for stronger governance, improved service delivery, and a renewed focus on addressing the aspirations of the Tiprasa people.
