Resident doctors and postgraduate trainees associated with Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital have warned of a pen-down strike from 9 am on Monday, October 5, if authorities fail to act on their demands concerning the alleged unauthorised recording and circulation of videos and other social media content linked to a recent incident involving a senior resident doctor.
The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) has raised concerns over the continued circulation of videos, photographs, reels and other online material that it says contains misleading, unverified or defamatory claims about the incident.
Resident Doctors Seek Government Action Over Social Media Posts
The doctors’ association said several rounds of discussions have taken place with the administration since the incident. Representatives also met the Health Secretary and submitted their demands, seeking legal and administrative intervention over the online circulation of the disputed material.
According to the RDA, some content initially published by media organisations has already been removed following cooperation from the concerned media houses. However, the association alleged that similar material continues to appear on smaller social media pages and individual accounts.
The doctors have particularly objected to the alleged unauthorised recording and subsequent distribution of material connected with the incident.
Four Key Demands Put Forward by AGMC Doctors
The RDA has placed four principal demands before the authorities.
The association has sought the immediate arrest and legal action against those allegedly responsible for recording and circulating the video without consent.
It has also demanded action against social media pages, media platforms and other entities that publish or republish material which the association considers unverified, misleading or defamatory.
Another demand is for the immediate removal of disputed videos, photographs, reels and other online posts, along with measures to prevent the material from being repeatedly uploaded or circulated.
The doctors have further sought appropriate corrections, clarifications or apologies from organisations or platforms where allegedly unverified or defamatory information was published.
RDA Raises Concern Over Cybercrime Response
The association has also expressed dissatisfaction over what it described as inadequate cooperation from cybercrime authorities in dealing with the online material.
The doctors have called for swift intervention to identify those responsible for creating and distributing the disputed content and to initiate proceedings under applicable laws.
The RDA has warned that failure to address its demands could result in resident doctors and postgraduate trainees beginning the proposed pen-down strike at 9 am on October 5.
Doctors Say Incident Has Affected Professional Dignity
The doctors’ body has argued that the circulation of allegedly misleading material could have consequences beyond the immediate dispute, including concerns about the privacy and professional reputation of healthcare workers.

The association said such online content could also affect the doctor-patient relationship and public confidence in medical professionals. It has appealed to people to verify information before sharing videos, photographs or claims related to the incident.
Earlier Protest at AGMC
The latest warning comes after resident doctors reportedly staged a sit-in outside the Principal’s office at AGMC and submitted a memorandum seeking action over unauthorised recording inside hospital premises and stronger security arrangements for healthcare workers.
The RDA has maintained that resident doctors and postgraduate trainees will remain united in seeking protection of their dignity, privacy and professional integrity while calling for responsible handling of information surrounding the incident.
What Happens on October 5?
The immediate focus is now on the administration's response before the 9 am deadline on October 5. If the association's demands are not addressed, resident doctors and postgraduate trainees have warned of a pen-down strike, potentially putting additional pressure on hospital authorities to resolve the dispute.
