Two passengers suddenly fell seriously ill at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport on Tuesday, triggering panic inside the airport premises. One passenger died while another woman passenger is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Agartala.
According to airport sources, the deceased passenger has been identified as Haradhan Shil, aged above 60. He had arrived at the airport to board an 11 am IndiGo flight to Kolkata along with his son and a close relative.
Sources said Haradhan Shil was travelling to Kolkata for medical treatment. After entering the airport terminal building, he suddenly started feeling unwell before completing the check-in process at the IndiGo counter.
Witnesses said the passenger sat down on a chair inside the terminal as his condition rapidly deteriorated. He reportedly experienced severe breathing difficulty linked to heart-related complications.
The doctor on duty at the airport terminal was immediately informed. However, the passenger’s condition became critical within minutes. Airport sources stated that the medical room inside the terminal lacks advanced emergency treatment facilities required for severe cardiac emergencies.
An ambulance equipped with emergency oxygen support was arranged by the Airport Authority, and the airport doctor accompanied the patient to a private hospital in the Khejurbagan area.
However, doctors at the hospital later declared Haradhan Shil dead. According to medical opinion, he likely died while being transported from the airport to the hospital.
Woman Passenger Falls Ill Inside Aircraft
In another incident on the same day, a 45-year-old woman passenger identified as Jabeda Begum Chowdhury suddenly fell critically ill inside an IndiGo aircraft scheduled to fly from Agartala to Silchar.
Airport officials said the aircraft had already entered the runway area and was preparing for take-off when the woman’s health suddenly deteriorated.
After being alerted by the cabin crew, the pilot immediately aborted the take-off procedure and brought the aircraft back to the apron area.
The aircraft door was opened on an emergency basis and the woman passenger was taken out for immediate medical assistance.
Doctors and nurses at the airport terminal examined her condition and found that she was facing serious breathing difficulties reportedly caused by heart-related problems.
She was later shifted to a private hospital in Khejurbagan with oxygen support in an Airport Authority ambulance.
Hospital sources said the woman’s condition stabilized after treatment and she remains under medical supervision.
Airport officials said Jabeda Begum Chowdhury is a resident of Karimganj. She had arrived in Agartala from Delhi by flight earlier in the morning and later boarded the connecting flight to Silchar.
Sources added that she had been travelling alone. After receiving information about her hospitalization, her relatives from Karimganj arrived in Agartala later in the evening.
