Pakistani Woman Sentenced to Two Years in Jail by Tripura Court for Illegal Entry into India

A court in Tripura has sentenced a 65-year-old Pakistani woman to two years of simple imprisonment after convicting her of entering India without valid travel documents. The South Tripura court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000, reinforcing India's strict enforcement of immigration laws (boi) against illegal entry.

The verdict was delivered by the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Sabroom, in PRC (WP) Case No. 03/2026, which originated from Sabroom Police Station Case No. 32/2025. The court found the accused guilty under the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act after examining the evidence produced during the trial.

Convict Identified as Pakistani National

The convicted woman has been identified as Louis Nighat Arther Bano, also known as Nigo and Nigat Bano, aged 65. She is the wife of Md. Gul Faraj and a resident of Sheikhupura district in Pakistan.

Besides the two-year jail sentence, the court directed her to pay a monetary penalty of ₹10,000. If she fails to deposit the fine, she will have to undergo an additional one month of simple imprisonment.

Arrest at Sabroom Railway Station

According to the prosecution, personnel of the Government Railway Police (GRP) detained the woman at Sabroom Railway Station on October 11, 2025, after noticing suspicious movements.

Investigators informed the court that during questioning, she initially provided multiple false identities before admitting that she was a Pakistani citizen. She allegedly disclosed that she had entered India illegally without a valid passport or visa after escaping from a prison in Nepal.

Police Investigation Led to Chargesheet

Following a detailed investigation, Inspector Apu Das of Sabroom Police Station filed the charge sheet on January 31, 2026.

The accused was prosecuted under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Immigration (Passengers) Act, and the Foreigners Act for unlawful entry into India and related offences.

Court Finds Evidence Sufficient

After considering documentary evidence, witness statements and prosecution arguments, the SDJM court concluded that the charges had been proved beyond reasonable doubt.

The court subsequently convicted the accused and awarded a two-year simple imprisonment, along with the financial penalty, marking another significant judgment in a case involving illegal cross-border entry into India.
