A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippine early Monday, causing widespread panic, structural damage, and casualties while triggering tsunami warnings across several countries in Southeast Asia.

According to international seismic monitoring agencies, the powerful quake originated near Mindanao Island and was felt across large parts of the Philippines and neighboring nations.

More Than 100 Aftershocks Recorded

Japan also issued tsunami advisories for portions of its Pacific coastline, while warnings were extended to Guam. However, authorities confirmed there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii, Canada, or the Pacific coast of the United States.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed all relevant government agencies to begin immediate evacuation, rescue, and relief operations in affected communities.

Local governments mobilized emergency responders as power outages and infrastructure disruptions were reported in several areas.
