PM Modi’s Netherlands Visit to Boost Trade, Technology and Strategic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the Netherlands after nine years in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across trade, technology, semiconductors, green energy and defense sectors.

According to reports, PM Modi will be in the Netherlands from May 15 to 17, where he is scheduled to hold talks with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. Several important agreements and investment proposals are expected to be discussed during the visit.

Focus on Semiconductors and High-Tech Cooperation

A major highlight of the visit is likely to be cooperation in semiconductors and advanced technology. India is currently expanding its chip manufacturing ecosystem and is looking to strengthen partnerships with leading Dutch technology firms.

Dutch semiconductor equipment giant ASML is expected to play a key role in future India-Netherlands technology collaboration. India hopes to enhance technical cooperation and investment in chip manufacturing through closer ties with Dutch companies.

Trade and Investment Relations Expanding

Trade between India and the Netherlands has been steadily increasing over the years, with the Netherlands emerging as one of the major foreign investors in India. Discussions during the visit may include fresh investment plans, trade agreements and enhanced economic cooperation.

Both countries are also expected to deepen collaboration in ports, logistics, agricultural technology and green hydrogen projects.

The Netherlands is globally recognized for its expertise in water management and modern farming systems, areas where India is keen to benefit from Dutch experience and innovation.

PM Modi to Meet Dutch Royal Family

During the visit, PM Modi will also meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Reports suggest that an official ceremony and banquet will be hosted in his honor.

PM Modi last visited the Netherlands in 2017. Earlier this year, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof visited India, where discussions focused on artificial intelligence, digital technology and economic partnerships.

Strategic Importance of the Visit

Experts believe the visit reflects India’s broader strategic outreach in Europe amid changing global geopolitical and economic conditions following the Russia-Ukraine War and global supply chain disruptions.

The Netherlands holds strategic importance for India as a major European trade gateway, particularly through the Port of Rotterdam, one of Europe’s largest ports and logistics hubs.
