Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address young athletes and youth leaders virtually on August 27 as part of the nationwide "Khelo India Samvad – Khel Ki Baat, Pradhan Mantri Modi Ke Saath” programme. The initiative will connect participants from more than 1,500 educational institutions and venues across India ahead of National Sports Day 2026.
The programme is being organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with the objective of giving young people, athletes and students a direct platform to discuss the future of Indian sports, grassroots development and youth participation.

PM Modi’s Virtual Interaction With Young Athletes
The August 27 programme will begin with a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Participants will join from institutions including IITs, IIMs, NITs, AIIMS, leading medical colleges and universities.
Following the Prime Minister’s address, simultaneous activities and interactions will take place at participating locations. Young athletes will get an opportunity to present their ideas, experiences and suggestions concerning India’s sporting ecosystem.
The initiative is expected to focus on four broad areas: improving grassroots sports facilities and coaching, developing talent with an eye on the 2036 Olympics, encouraging greater youth participation in leadership and governance, and creating opportunities for young people to contribute to nation-building.
National Sports Day 2026: Why August 29 Matters
The nationwide interaction comes ahead of National Sports Day on August 29, which is observed in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
The Khelo India programme has increasingly focused on identifying sporting talent at the grassroots level and creating pathways for young athletes to progress towards elite competition.
Athletes and Sporting Personalities to Engage With Youth
The programme will also bring accomplished athletes and sports personalities closer to young participants. Medal winners and leading sportspersons are expected to discuss their sporting journeys, challenges and experiences with the next generation.

Focus on India’s Sporting Future
The Khelo India Samvad is designed to strengthen the connection between young people, athletes and policymakers. With participation spread across more than 1,500 locations, the initiative seeks to bring youth aspirations into discussions on sports infrastructure, talent development and India’s long-term sporting ambitions.
The programme will therefore serve as a major youth-focused sports outreach ahead of National Sports Day 2026, while reinforcing the government’s emphasis on developing India’s next generation of athletes.
