Portuguese footballer Quinin Castro, aged 25, has died after suffering a medical emergency during a pre-season football match in Lisbon on Saturday.

Castro was playing for third-tier side Real Sport Clube against Portuguese top-flight club
Estrela da Amadora when he suddenly collapsed during the opening minutes of the fixture.

The match was subsequently stopped following the serious incident.

Quinin Castro Collapses on Pitch During Match

The young footballer fell unconscious early in the game, prompting medical personnel to rush onto the pitch and begin emergency treatment.

According to reports, efforts were made to revive Castro at the stadium before he was transported to hospital. His death was later confirmed.

The Lisbon Football Association expressed its condolences following the tragedy and offered support to Castro's family, friends and members of Real Sport Clube.

Quinin Castro Made West Brom First-Team Debut Against Arsenal

Castro joined the West Bromwich Albion academy in 2021 and progressed to the senior squad.

He made his first-team debut in a League Cup match against Arsenal in the same year. He later made a league appearance for West Brom.

During his time in England, Castro also gained experience through loan spells with Burton Albion, Notts County and Gateshead.

Portuguese Footballer Played for Several English Clubs

Castro spent a significant portion of his football career in England, representing several clubs after leaving the West Brom setup.

His career included spells with York City, King's Lynn Town, Chippenham Town, Cambridge City and Eastbourne Borough. He also had a trial with Ipswich Town.

After several seasons in English football, Castro returned to Portugal this summer and joined Real Sport Clube.

His return to Portuguese football ended tragically on August 22, when he collapsed during the Lisbon pre-season fixture and later died at the age of 25.
