Putin offers mediation as US-Iran conflict escalates

Amid the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Russia has stepped forward with an offer to mediate, as hostilities show no immediate signs of abating.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a swift cessation of violence, affirming Moscow’s willingness to facilitate dialogue and restore regional stability. According to state-run agency Interfax, Putin indicated he would remain in contact with key regional stakeholders, underscoring Russia’s readiness to “help restore peace in the region.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that diplomatic engagements are ongoing, noting that Russia stands prepared to contribute toward transitioning the conflict from military confrontation to a negotiated settlement.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, outlined four principal conditions for a ceasefire in remarks to TASS. These stipulations align with Tehran’s broader stance following its rejection of a proposed 15-point peace framework attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump, which it deemed “excessive.”

Jalali emphasised that Iran remains open to constructive diplomacy but insisted that any viable peace initiative must reflect “ground realities” and adhere to established legal and political parameters.

Separately, U.S. media reports citing intelligence sources have alleged that Russia has supplied Iran with sensitive information, including satellite imagery detailing the locations of American military installations in the Gulf. Moscow is also accused of transferring drone technology to Tehran amid the conflict.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently alluded to the possible involvement of both Russia and China, stating that Washington is aware of their roles in the ongoing situation. The Kremlin, however, has categorically dismissed these allegations, branding them as “fake news.”
