Rahul Gandhi to Address Rallies in Assam Today

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Assam on Thursday, April 2, as the party intensifies its campaign ahead of the Assembly elections, with several senior leaders already canvassing across the state.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha will address two major rallies during his day-long visit, beginning in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district, followed by Titabor. His visit follows recent campaign appearances by Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and D. K. Shivakumar.

According to the Assam Congress, Gandhi will depart from Delhi in the morning and arrive at Dimapur Airport before travelling by helicopter to Bokajan, where he will address a public gathering. He will subsequently proceed to Titabor for another rally targeting voters in Upper Assam.

The visit forms part of a broader Congress strategy to mount a strong challenge against the ruling BJP-led alliance, with campaign messaging centred on governance, welfare, and regional identity.

Earlier, addressing a rally in Nazira, Priyanka Gandhi launched a sharp critique of both the state and central governments, urging voters to reject what she termed a “government of double subjugation” and back a Congress-led alternative.

“They only work for you when it serves their own interests… we want a government in Assam that does not intimidate or threaten you, but one that genuinely serves the people,” she said.

She also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, criticising the BJP’s “double-engine government” narrative and alleging a failure to deliver on its promises.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be conducted in a single phase on April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. The contest is expected to be a direct battle between the incumbent BJP-led NDA and the Congress.
