Rajkummar Rao begins Ganguly biopic ‘Dada’ shoot

Actor Rajkummar Rao has officially begun filming for ‘Dada’, an upcoming biographical film chronicling the life of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.

Announcing the development on Instagram, Rao wrote, “And it begins… the one and only Dada,” marking the commencement of the highly anticipated project.

The film is being helmed by director Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan. While Ganguly had earlier confirmed Rao’s casting, scheduling constraints could delay the film’s release by over a year.

Rao is also set to headline another biographical venture, “Nikam,” based on the life of eminent public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Additionally, he will star in “Raftaar” alongside Keerthy Suresh, which is slated for a theatrical release on July 24, 2026.

Regarded as one of the most accomplished ODI batsmen in cricket history, Ganguly featured in 113 Tests and 311 One Day Internationals for India, accumulating an impressive 18,575 international runs. His ODI tally of 11,363 runs places him among the select few to surpass the 11,000-run milestone.

As captain, he spearheaded India to 21 Test victories and led the team to the final of the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. Ganguly retired from international cricket in 2008.

Following his playing career, he transitioned into cricket administration, serving as President of the Cricket Association of Bengal from 2015 to 2019, and is set to reassume the role from September 22, 2025. He also held office as the 39th President of the BCCI from October 2019 to October 2022.
