The election process for 26 Rajya Sabha (rajyasabha) seats across 12 states has concluded, marking a significant political outcome in the Upper House race. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged as the dominant force by winning 19 seats, while the India Bloc secured 6 seats. The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) of Mizoram achieved a historic breakthrough with 1 seat.

Both the NDA and India Bloc recorded a net gain of one seat each in this election cycle, reshaping the parliamentary representation balance.

Jharkhand and Mizoram Key Results Declared

Results for two Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand and one seat in Mizoram were announced on Thursday.

In Jharkhand:

  • NDA-backed Independent candidate Parimal Nathwani won one seat
  • Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Baidyanath Ram secured the second seat

The Jharkhand outcome was influenced by cross-voting, which played a decisive role in the final tally. Three votes were declared invalid during counting.

The Congress party alleged that the RJD and Left parties failed to extend expected support, impacting its performance.

Historic Win for ZPM in Mizoram Rajya Sabha Seat

In Mizoram, ZPM candidate K. Laltluangkima secured a landmark victory, winning the state’s lone Rajya Sabha seat.

Vote breakdown:

  • K. Laltluangkima (ZPM): 26 votes
  • Zothansangi Hmar (Mizo National Front - MNF): 10 votes

This marks the first-ever Rajya Sabha representation for ZPM, a party formed in 2017, and a significant milestone in Mizoram’s political history.

Voting Pattern and Abstentions

The Mizoram election witnessed notable abstentions:

  • 2 BJP MLAs abstained
  • 1 Congress MLA abstained
  • 1 ZPM MLA could not vote due to health reasons

These absences also influenced the final margin in the closely contested seat.
