RDA Protests Over Senior Resident Doctor Incident in GBP Hospital

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday following an incident involving a senior resident doctor who was reportedly on duty at the Medicine OPD. The association said the episode has raised serious concerns over the safety, professional dignity and workplace security of doctors and healthcare workers.

The protest began at around 9 am outside the office of the college principal, where members of the RDA gathered to demand action against those allegedly responsible for the incident. The doctors also submitted a memorandum to the college administration containing a set of demands aimed at protecting medical professionals and strengthening security inside the hospital.

RDA Seeks Action Over Circulation of Videos

A major concern raised by the Resident Doctors Association was the circulation of videos related to the incident across social media and other media platforms.

The RDA demanded that such videos be removed immediately. The association also said that if inaccurate or misleading information has been circulated, an appropriate correction should be issued along with an apology.

According to the doctors' body, measures should also be introduced to prevent the unauthorized circulation of similar material in the future.

The association stressed that the professional reputation and dignity of the senior resident doctor involved in the incident must be protected while the matter is examined.

Doctors Object to One-Sided Media Coverage

The RDA also raised objections to what it described as a one-sided “media trial” surrounding the incident.

The association maintained that the doctor concerned should be given an opportunity to explain his version before conclusions are drawn publicly. It argued that no judgment or decision should be reached without hearing the statement of the medical professional involved.

The demand comes amid concerns over the impact that unverified allegations or incomplete accounts can have on the professional standing of doctors.

RDA Raises Privacy Concerns Inside Hospital

Another issue highlighted by the protesting doctors was the recording of photographs and videos inside hospital premises.

The RDA has demanded restrictions on photography and video recording in sensitive areas such as hospital wards and OPDs without appropriate permission. The association said such recordings could affect the privacy and security of doctors, healthcare workers and patients.

The organization has urged the administration to establish clearer safeguards governing photography and video recording inside clinical areas.

FIR Demanded Over Alleged False Allegations

The Resident Doctors Association has also called for legal action against the person it alleges made false accusations against the senior resident doctor.

According to the association, an FIR should be registered through the Medical Superintendent (MS) against the individual concerned if the allegations are found to be false. The RDA has sought strict action under the applicable law.

The demand reflects the association's position that complaints involving medical professionals should be investigated through due process rather than being settled through public allegations or social media circulation.

RDA Demands TSR Deployment for Hospital Security

Hospital security was another major issue raised during the protest.

The RDA has demanded that Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel be deployed instead of the SIS security guards currently stationed at the hospital. The association has also called for stronger and more effective security arrangements across the hospital premises.

According to the doctors' organization, improved security is necessary to ensure that doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and patients can carry out or receive medical services without facing avoidable security concerns.

Administration Asked to Ensure Safe Working Environment

The RDA has urged the hospital and college authorities to take immediate steps to create a safer working environment for doctors and other healthcare professionals.

The association said its demands are intended not only to address the particular incident involving the senior resident doctor but also to strengthen workplace safety, privacy, professional dignity and security within the healthcare environment.

Following Wednesday's protest and submission of the memorandum, the RDA is now awaiting the administration's response and action on its demands.
