Satwik-Chirag Win China Masters Super 750 Title, Create History

India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have ended their long wait for the China Masters crown with a remarkable comeback victory in the men's doubles final in Shenzhen.

The Indian badminton stars defeated China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 in a contest lasting one hour and 10 minutes on Sunday. The triumph made Satwik and Chirag the first Indian men's doubles pair to win the China Masters title.

The championship is also the duo's 10th BWF World Tour title and their second tournament victory of the 2026 season after their Singapore Open Super 750 success.

China Masters Final: Indians Recover After Losing First Game

The opening game was controlled by the Chinese combination. He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu attacked aggressively from the beginning and quickly established a 5-0 advantage.

Satwik and Chirag struggled to find their rhythm and could not consistently control the pace of the rallies. China maintained a comfortable advantage at the interval before extending its lead.

Errors from the Indian side further helped the home pair. Chirag's service fault contributed to China's 17-9 advantage, while another wide shot gave the Chinese duo additional momentum. He and Ren subsequently closed out the opening game 21-11.

Satwik and Chirag Change Strategy

The second game produced a completely different performance from the Indian pair.

Satwik and Chirag improved their defensive organisation and began extending rallies rather than allowing their opponents to finish points quickly. Satwik also used his flick serve effectively to disrupt the Chinese attack.

The tactical adjustment began paying dividends as the Indians forced He and Ren into longer exchanges. A spectacular 45-shot rally went India's way as Satwik and Chirag moved ahead 12-8.

China then committed several unforced errors, including shots into the net, allowing the Indian pair to create multiple game-point opportunities.

Satwik eventually produced an attacking return to seal the second game 21-13, sending the final into a deciding third game.

China Masters Final Goes Down to the Wire

He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu started the deciding game strongly, moving 4-0 ahead.

The Chinese pair continued to lead 7-3 before Satwik and Chirag began their recovery. Chirag's powerful smash, combined with an error from He Ji Ting, helped India reduce the deficit.

Four consecutive points from the Indians brought the score level at 7-7.

The battle then became increasingly intense, with both teams exchanging fast, flat rallies. China still held a narrow advantage at the interval.

After the change of ends, Satwik and Chirag refused to allow the Chinese pair to pull away. The Indians stayed close despite trailing 11-13 and eventually levelled the contest at 16-16.

Chirag Shetty Finishes China Masters Final

The decisive moments finally went India's way.

A He Ji Ting error at the net handed Satwik and Chirag an 18-17 lead. The Indians then secured another crucial point from the net cord before earning three match points.

Chirag took responsibility at the crucial moment, smashing the shuttle beyond the reach of the Chinese defenders to complete India's comeback.

The final score read 11-21, 21-13, 21-17, giving Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty their maiden China Masters Super 750 championship.

Major Confidence Boost Before Asian Games

The China Masters victory comes at an important time for the Indian duo, who are preparing to defend their men's doubles gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.

Satwik and Chirag had previously finished runners-up at the China Masters in 2023 and 2025, while reaching the semifinals in 2024. Their 2026 victory finally ends that run of near misses at the prestigious tournament.

The hard-fought win also gives the Indian pair valuable momentum ahead of their Asian Games title defence.
