Section 163 imposed in Dharmanagar count centre

Ahead of the counting of votes for the by-election to the 56-Dharmanagar Assembly constituency on May 4, the administration has put in place stringent security arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of the process.

North Tripura District Magistrate and District Election Officer Chandani Chandran issued an order stating that Section 163 of the BNSS will remain in force within a 100-metre radius of the counting centre from 6 am on May 4 until completion of the counting process.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, counting will begin at 8 am at P. M. Sri Dharmanagar Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Dharmanagar subdivision.

The administration has declared the 100-metre area surrounding the counting centre a “pedestrian zone”, completely prohibiting the movement of all kinds of vehicles, including two-wheelers and rickshaws.

The guidelines further prohibit carrying weapons or weapon-like objects such as sticks, bamboo poles, iron rods and stones within the restricted zone. Public gatherings, rallies, meetings and the use of microphones or loudspeakers have also been banned.

Officials said the restrictions are aimed at ensuring free, fair and peaceful counting of votes while maintaining law and order, without causing unnecessary inconvenience to the general public.
