Sikkim CEO Warns: Over 21,000 Electors at Risk of Deletion from Voter List

More than 21,928 voters across Sikkim are at risk of being deleted from the state's electoral rolls as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise enters its final phase. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Raj Yadav on Monday expressed concern over the large number of electors whose Enumeration Forms (EFs) are yet to be verified.
According to the Election Department, while 99.68 percent of Enumeration Forms have already been distributed statewide, only 84.14 percent have been digitally uploaded and authenticated by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). With the June 28 deadline fast approaching, thousands of electors remain unverified.
Thousands Yet to Be Verified Before June 28 Deadline
Election officials stated that most pending cases involve voters who are deceased, have permanently migrated, cannot be traced, remain absent, or are already enrolled in electoral rolls at other locations. Authorities warned that the number of proposed deletions could rise further before the revision process concludes.
Several urban constituencies, including Arithang, Gangtok, Khamdong-Singtam, Namchi-Singhithang and West Pendam, have recorded poor progress in form digitisation and verification, making these constituencies a major focus area for election officials.
Booth Level Officers Intensify Verification Drive
Describing the situation as a high-priority issue, CEO Raj Yadav said Booth Level Officers are conducting extensive door-to-door verification, telephonic outreach and coordination with Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to trace missing electors. Despite these efforts, many voters remain unresponsive or untraceable.
Yadav appealed to political parties, public representatives and citizens to extend support in locating voters whose Enumeration Forms are still pending verification. He cautioned that electors who fail to complete the verification process may find their names excluded from the Draft Electoral Roll.
Final Submission Date June 25, Draft Roll on July 5
The Election Department has urged all eligible voters to submit their Enumeration Forms by June 25 to facilitate timely verification before the final deadline. The Draft Electoral Roll will be published on July 5, revealing the names retained and those proposed for deletion.
"Every eligible voter must ensure that their Enumeration Form is submitted and verified before the deadline. Otherwise, their name may not appear in the Draft Electoral Roll," Raj Yadav said.
