Sourav Ganguly Gets Death Threat, Kolkata Police Probe

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife Dona Ganguly have reportedly received death threats (PTI) prompting Kolkata Police to begin an investigation into a series of threatening letters.
The complaint was lodged after threatening communications were received in Kolkata. Police are now working to identify the sender and establish the motive behind the messages.

According to the complaint, Ganguly's office received a courier containing two letters on Monday. The messages, written in English, reportedly contained abusive and threatening language directed at the former India captain and his family.
Reports indicate that similar letters had allegedly been arriving for several months. The earlier communications were reportedly not treated as an immediate threat, but the latest messages prompted the Ganguly family to approach the police.
Ganguly is currently associated with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which has become a key part of the investigation into the courier delivery.

Kolkata Police Trace Courier and Sender
Police have started examining the threatening letters, the courier records and other available leads to determine who sent them.
Investigators are reportedly looking into a possible connection with Belgharia in North 24 Parganas. Police are also examining a mobile SIM card and have contacted the courier agency to obtain information about the consignment and its movement.
Authorities are treating the complaint seriously as they attempt to establish the identity of the person responsible.
Ganguly's Cricket Career
Sourav Ganguly remains one of the most prominent figures in Indian cricket. He made his ODI debut against the West Indies in 1992 before making his Test debut at Lord's in 1996. He scored 131 in his first Test appearance, immediately establishing himself on the international stage.

During his India career, Ganguly accumulated 7,212 runs in 113 Test matches and 11,363 runs across 311 ODIs. He recorded 16 Test centuries and 22 ODI hundreds.
He became India's captain in 2000 and led the national side during an important period of transition. Under his leadership, India recorded major overseas Test victories and reached the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup final.
Ganguly also captained India in the 2002 Champions Trophy, where India and Sri Lanka shared the title. Earlier that year, he led India to the memorable NatWest Trophy triumph at Lord's.
He retired from international cricket in 2008.
From India Captain to BCCI President
Ganguly later moved into cricket administration. He became president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and was unanimously elected BCCI president in October 2019. The BCCI officially announced his election at the time.
His tenure as BCCI president ended in 2022, when Roger Binny, a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning squad, took over the position.
The latest death-threat case has now placed Ganguly and his family at the centre of a Kolkata Police investigation, with authorities examining the letters, courier trail and other evidence to identify the person behind the threats.
