The Tipra Motha Party on Monday announced a major leadership reshuffle in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, signalling a clear shift towards younger leadership.
Thirty-seven-year-old Runiel Debbarma has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM), while Bhabaranjan Reang, aged 39, will take over as Chairman of the council. Both leaders are set to assume office on Tuesday and will be among the youngest to hold these ключевые positions in the TTAADC.
The new appointments replace senior leaders Purna Chandra Jamatia and Jagadish Debbarma, marking a generational transition within the party’s leadership structure.
Veteran administrator C. K. Jamatia has been appointed as an Executive Member (EM). A retired civil servant and former Chief Executive Officer of the council, he is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening governance, particularly in financial and administrative matters.
The reshuffle reflects the party’s strategic push to project a youthful leadership and strengthen its connect with younger voters. The move has received backing from party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who has consistently advocated for promoting emerging leaders within the organization.
The decisions were finalised during a virtual meeting held at the royal palace, where all Members of District Council (MDCs) unanimously approved the new leadership. Runiel Debbarma joined the meeting online due to medical reasons.
Following the appointments, the new CEM will now select other Executive Members to complete the council’s leadership team. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held at the TTAADC headquarters.
The leadership change comes in the backdrop of the council election results declared on April 17, after which speculation had intensified over key पदों, with several senior leaders seen as contenders.
Party sources indicated that loyalty and long-term association with the organization played a decisive role in the selection process. Leaders who remained committed during challenging phases were given preference.
At the same time, insiders suggest that certain internal issues during the elections may have influenced the reshuffle. The move is being viewed both as a corrective step and a forward-looking strategy aimed at redefining the council’s leadership dynamics.
With this transition, Tipra Motha appears to be positioning itself for a new phase, combining youthful energy with administrative experience to guide the TTAADC in the coming years.
