The Tipra Motha Party has demanded the arrest of those allegedly involved in the shooting incident targeting party workers in Udaipur during the ongoing Village Committee elections.
A delegation of Tipra Motha leaders met
Tripura State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen at the State Election Commission office and submitted a formal deputation seeking immediate action against the accused.
The party has given a 24-hour deadline for the arrest of those allegedly responsible for the firing, maintaining that the incident took place in connection with the electoral process and therefore requires urgent intervention by the election authorities.
Tipra Motha Delegation Meets State Election Commission
The delegation included TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, MLA Bishwajit Kaloi, MDC Suraj Debbarma, MDC Jiten Debbarma and MDC Prathamit Debbarma, along with other party leaders.
During the meeting, the representatives reportedly apprised the Election Commission of the circumstances surrounding the firing incident and demanded prompt steps to ensure the safety of candidates, workers and voters participating in the Village Committee elections.
The party's demand comes amid heightened attention to security arrangements at polling locations following the reported violence.
Ranjit Debbarma Demands Arrest Within 24 Hours
Speaking to journalists after submitting the deputation, MLA Ranjit Debbarma said those allegedly responsible for the shooting should be arrested within the next 24 hours.
He said the incident was directly linked to the election process and argued that the State Election Commission should take immediate steps within its jurisdiction.
Debbarma further stated that the party would assess the situation after the deadline and hold an internal meeting to decide its next course of action if the arrests were not made.
He indicated that the party could announce a fresh programme following the meeting.
Tipra Motha Questions Police Response
The Tipra Motha MLA also questioned the response of the police administration following the reported firing at a polling location.
According to Debbarma, a group of people travelling in several vehicles allegedly entered the polling station area and opened fire. He questioned why arrests had not been made even after more than 24 hours had passed since the incident.
His remarks also focused on the wider issue of security at polling stations, particularly during an election in which the movement of voters, candidates and political workers requires close monitoring by the administration.
Party Claims Police Were Given Details of Injured Workers
Debbarma further claimed that some of the injured party workers who were present at the location had already been identified.
He said information concerning the injured individuals and the incident had been communicated to the police administration. However, he alleged that no arrest had been made so far.
The party has therefore sought immediate action against the accused and urged the authorities to ensure that the electoral environment remains peaceful.
Tipra Motha Leaders to Visit Incident Site
The Tipra Motha leadership also plans to visit the area where the incident occurred.
Debbarma said party leaders would speak directly with local residents and gather information about the sequence of events. The proposed visit is intended to help the party understand the circumstances surrounding the firing and assess the situation on the ground.

He also called for immediate action against those accused in the incident, saying that maintaining law and order is particularly important during the election period.
Police Personnel Also Reportedly Injured
The Tipra Motha MLA also referred to reports that police personnel were injured during the incident.
He described violence at a polling station as a serious concern and said the administration should take effective preventive measures to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
The demand for arrests comes as authorities continue to oversee the Village Committee election process in Tripura, where security arrangements remain a key concern.
Election Security Remains a Major Issue
The latest development has once again brought attention to the importance of security at polling stations during local elections.
Political parties and election authorities have a shared interest in ensuring that voters can exercise their franchise without intimidation or disruption. Any allegation of firing or violence at a polling location requires investigation by the competent authorities and appropriate action based on established evidence and law.
For now, Tipra Motha has placed its demand before the State Election Commission and sought action within 24 hours. The response of the election authorities and police administration will determine the next developments in the case.
