Tripura ATTF-NLFT Protest: Highway, Rail Blockade Over 7-Point Demands

Members of surrendered militant organisations ATTF and NLFT have renewed their agitation in Tripura launching simultaneous blockades of the Assam-Agartala National Highway at Champaknagar and a railway track in the Brigudas area on Friday.
The fresh protest has raised concerns over disruption to road and railway connectivity as the demonstrators press for implementation of their seven-point charter of demands, primarily concerning rehabilitation, financial assistance and other benefits promised after their surrender.
Surrendered ATTF, NLFT Members Demand Rehabilitation Benefits
The protesters claimed that several commitments made by the Central and Tripura governments following their surrender remain pending.
According to the agitators, promised rehabilitation assistance, financial support and other welfare-related facilities have not been fully delivered despite the passage of considerable time. They also alleged that repeated representations before different levels of the administration have failed to produce a lasting solution.
The issue of rehabilitation of surrendered militants has remained a recurring subject of protests in Tripura. Similar road and rail blockade programmes have been announced or organised by representatives of surrendered militants in recent months.
Protesters Resume Blockade at Champaknagar and Brigudas
The latest agitation began Friday morning, with protesters assembling on the Assam-Agartala National Highway in Champaknagar.
At the same time, another group occupied a railway track in Brigudas, creating the possibility of disruption to train services.
The protesters said previous assurances from the administration had failed to resolve their grievances. They therefore decided to resume their movement and demand a concrete government response.
Seven Demands at Centre of Agitation
The protesters have made it clear that they are seeking more than verbal assurances this time.
They have demanded direct intervention from the Tripura Chief Minister and the Director of the Tribal Welfare Department. According to the protesters, the blockade will be withdrawn only after senior officials reach the protest site, hold discussions with them and provide specific assurances regarding implementation of their demands.

Earlier this month, surrendered militant representatives had also raised a seven-point charter concerning rehabilitation and government assistance, with the government assuring them that the issues would be examined through dialogue.
Road and Rail Connectivity Face Disruption
The simultaneous blockade of a national highway and railway track has triggered concern over inconvenience to ordinary passengers, motorists, commercial vehicles and other commuters.
The Assam-Agartala National Highway is one of Tripura's principal surface connectivity routes, while the railway network provides an important link between the state and other parts of the country.
Administration Monitors Situation
Administrative and security authorities have reportedly increased monitoring around the protest locations.
Efforts are underway to engage with the demonstrators and find a solution to the standoff. The immediate focus remains on restoring normal movement on the highway and railway route while addressing the protesters' long-pending grievances through discussions.
The renewed agitation comes amid a series of protests by organisations representing surrendered militants in Tripura over unresolved rehabilitation-related issues.
