Tripura CM Manik Saha Inaugurates Advanced State Data Centre for Water Resource Management

Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated a modern State Data Centre at the Visvesvaraya Complex in Kunjaban, marking a major step toward technology-driven water resource management in Tripura.

The newly launched facility, developed by the Public Works (Water Resources) Department, is aimed at improving monitoring of underground water levels, river flow systems and flood control operations across the state.

Technology to Improve Flood Monitoring and Water Management

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the advanced data centre will bring greater transparency, efficiency and faster decision-making in water resource management.

He stated that the technology-based system would strengthen flood preparedness, improve irrigation planning and ensure better public services related to water conservation and disaster management.

According to officials, the State Data Centre will function as a central hub for collecting, storing and analysing critical water-related data, helping authorities make informed policy decisions for sustainable resource management in Tripura.

Focus on Sustainable Water Resource Planning

Manik Saha said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to using modern technology for better governance and public welfare.

He added that the project would help improve long-term planning for irrigation, groundwater conservation and climate-resilient infrastructure development across the state.

Officials believe the integrated monitoring system will also play a key role in disaster response during floods and extreme weather conditions.

Irrigation Facilities Expanded Across Tripura

The Chief Minister praised the efforts of the Water Resources Department for expanding irrigation facilities throughout the state.

He said irrigation coverage has already reached nearly 1.5 lakh hectares of farmland out of Tripura’s total 2.55 lakh hectares of agricultural land.

Dr. Saha also acknowledged the department’s continuous role in flood control and river management, noting that its work has helped protect both residential areas and agricultural land during flood situations.

New Phase of Green and Digital Governance

The inauguration of the State Data Centre marks a new phase in Tripura’s push toward green, technology-driven governance and sustainable natural resource management.

Officials said the project could position Tripura as a regional model for integrated water planning, digital infrastructure and smart environmental management.
