Tripura Education Crisis: Government Schools Without Headmasters, Motha MLA Urges CM for Action

A major administrative vacuum has emerged in the education sector of Tripura's Ramchandraghat Assembly constituency, where nine government schools are reportedly operating without permanent headmasters. The prolonged leadership shortage has triggered concerns among teachers, parents and local residents over academic management, student discipline and the overall quality of education.

The issue has now reached the state's highest level after Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma submitted a formal representation to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, urging the government to immediately appoint qualified headmasters and restore proper administration in the affected institutions.

Nine Government Schools Facing Leadership Crisis

According to the MLA, the absence of permanent school heads has severely affected daily administration, academic planning and implementation of government education programmes.

Three High Schools Also Without Permanent Heads

The leadership shortage extends to the secondary education level as well.

The following schools are currently functioning without regular headmasters:

  • KMR High School

  • Debendra Choudhury High School

  • Wandalwang High School

Education stakeholders fear that continued vacancies could adversely affect institutional governance and students' academic performance.

Infrastructure Alone Cannot Improve Education: MLA

In his letter, Debbarma appreciated Chief Minister Manik Saha for recently laying the foundation stone of a new academic building at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School.

However, he emphasized that new infrastructure alone cannot ensure quality education without capable administrative leadership.

The MLA maintained that every government school requires experienced leadership to maintain discipline, supervise teachers, implement government schemes and create an effective learning environment for students.

Parents and Teachers Demand Immediate Government Intervention

Parents, teachers and local residents have also expressed concern over the prolonged vacancies. They believe the absence of permanent headmasters has weakened school administration, delayed academic planning and reduced accountability.

They urged the Tripura Government and the Education Department to expedite appointments, warning that further delays could negatively impact students' future and erode public confidence in the government school system.

Education Sector Awaits Swift Administrative Action

The issue has reignited debate over vacant administrative posts in Tripura's education sector. Education observers believe that filling headmaster vacancies at the earliest will strengthen school governance, improve academic standards and ensure smoother implementation of educational initiatives across the constituency.
