Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to conserve energy, the Tripura government has introduced a work-from-home system for a section of employees in various government offices across the state.
According to instructions issued by the General Administration (Administrative Reforms) Department, only 50 percent of Class III and Class IV employees will remain physically present in government offices during working hours. The remaining 50 percent employees will perform official duties from home.
The department has directed heads of departments to prepare weekly duty rosters for the concerned employees. While preparing the first week’s roster, priority will be given to employees residing near their respective offices.
Employees assigned to work from home have been instructed to remain connected through telephone and other communication channels during office hours. They may also be asked to report to office in case of emergencies or urgent official requirements.
The state government has further instructed government-owned companies, local bodies, autonomous institutions, and subordinate offices to implement similar arrangements.
However, offices providing emergency services will remain outside the purview of the new directive.
The order has come into immediate effect and will remain in force until further notification from the government.
