Tripura Piped Drinking Water Coverage Reaches 86.50%, Says CM Manik Saha

Tripura has significantly expanded its household drinking water network, with 86.50% of families now receiving regular water through pipeline connections (Jal Jeevan Mission) Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha told the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The Chief Minister disclosed the figures while answering separate questions raised by MLAs Jahar Chakraborty and Sudip Roy Barman during the ongoing Assembly session.
According to the figures presented in the House, Tripura has 750,849 families, of whom 649,470 households have already received piped drinking water connections.
The state government has set December 2028 as the target for ensuring regular supplies of treated drinking water to households across both the plains and hilly areas of Tripura.
Over 1.91 Lakh Rural Families Added to Safe Water Network
The Chief Minister also highlighted the expansion of drinking water infrastructure in rural Tripura.
He said 191,106 rural families have been brought under safe drinking water coverage during the past three years, marking a substantial expansion of access to piped water facilities in villages and remote areas.

The government is continuing work to extend reliable and treated drinking water supplies to households that are yet to receive pipeline connections.
Tripura Achieves 100% Sanitation Coverage
Responding to a question related to sanitation facilities, Manik Saha said Tripura has achieved 100% sanitation coverage across all Gram Panchayats and Village Committees.
The state currently has 1,193 Gram Panchayats and Village Committees covering 765 LGD-coded revenue villages, according to the information placed before the Assembly.
AMRUT 2.0 Provides Water Connections to 21,413 Families
Replying to MLA Jitendra Majumdar, the Chief Minister said 21,413 families have received drinking water connections under the AMRUT 2.0 programme so far.
Implementation of the AMRUT 2.0 project has reached around 90% completion, according to the government.
AMRUT 2.0 is among the key urban infrastructure initiatives being implemented to improve water supply and related civic services in Tripura. Earlier projects under the programme have also focused on expanding household water connections in Agartala.
Two New Water Treatment Plants Planned in Agartala
The government is also preparing major water infrastructure projects for the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
Responding to MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, Chief Minister Manik Saha said work orders have been issued for two new treatment plants aimed at supplying purified drinking water to residents.
The proposed projects are:
- Ground Water Treatment Plant: Capacity of 550 lakh litres per day at Netaji Adarsha Siksha Mandir, Agartala.
- Surface Water Treatment Plant: Capacity of 641 lakh litres per day at College Tilla, Agartala.
The groundwater treatment facility is expected to be completed by July 2027, while the surface water treatment plant is targeted for completion by January 2028.
Government Targets Reliable Treated Water Supply Across Tripura
The latest Assembly figures indicate that Tripura's drinking water infrastructure is undergoing a major expansion, with household pipeline coverage, rural water access and urban treatment capacity all being strengthened.
The state government has also recently stressed the importance of supplying iron-free drinking water, monitoring water quality and improving treatment infrastructure through the Tripura Jal Board.
With the December 2028 target approaching, the expansion of piped networks and new treatment facilities is expected to play a crucial role in providing regular treated drinking water to households across Tripura.
