The Tripura Food Department has launched a major verification exercise to identify inactive ration cards and duplicate beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System (PDS) with the process beginning from October 1.
The initiative is being implemented through the Smart PDS system with the objective of ensuring that subsidised ration reaches genuine and eligible beneficiaries while inactive and duplicate records are removed from the database.
Ration Cards With No Collection for 6 Months to Be Marked Silent
Under the latest verification process, ration cards from which no ration has been collected for six consecutive months will be classified as “silent ration cards.”
Such cards will be temporarily deactivated, meaning ration allocation for the beneficiaries registered under those cards will be stopped during the verification period.
Beneficiaries whose cards have been identified as silent will need to complete the required e-KYC verification through their Fair Price Shops to establish their eligibility and reactivate their ration-related benefits.
Failure to complete the prescribed verification process could eventually lead to the ration card being removed permanently from the Food Department's database, according to the department's verification procedure.
Duplicate Ration Card Beneficiaries Under Aadhaar-Based Verification
The Food Department has simultaneously started an exercise to detect duplicate beneficiaries whose names appear on more than one ration card.
The verification process uses Aadhaar-based authentication to identify cases where the same person may have been registered under multiple ration cards.
If a beneficiary is found on more than one ration card, the department will verify the person's details and determine the appropriate ration card under which the beneficiary should continue to receive PDS benefits.
The beneficiary will be required to complete e-KYC within the stipulated period. Once the verification confirms the correct beneficiary record, the person's name will remain on the valid ration card, while duplicate entries on other ration cards will be removed.
Food Department Advises Consumers to Check Ration Card Status
The Tripura Food Department has already issued public notices through newspapers to make ration card holders aware of the verification exercise.
Consumers have been advised to check whether their Aadhaar number and mobile number are correctly linked with their family ration card.
Ration card holders can also check their details and status through the Tripura Smart PDS portal:
Official Smart PDS Portal: https://tr.smartpds.nic.in
The verification is particularly important for families that have not collected ration for several months, as their cards may be included in the silent ration card category.
