Tripura State Election Commission Begins Preparation For Village Committee Polls

The Tripura State Election Commission has officially started preparations for the much-anticipated Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), with the announcement of the complete schedule for publishing polling station lists and resolving objections ahead of the polls.

According to the notification issued by the State Election Commission, the process will begin with the publication of the draft list of polling stations on May 11. The commission has also fixed timelines for receiving claims and objections, scrutinising complaints and publishing the final polling station list.

As per Rule 10 of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council Election Rules, 1996, all Returning Officers and concerned Block Development Officers (BDOs) have been instructed to determine an adequate number of polling stations to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the Village Committee elections in Tripura.

The order further stated that the polling station lists must be prepared with prior approval from the State Election Commissioner. The draft lists will be displayed at the offices of the Returning Officers, concerned BDO offices and Village Committee offices for public information.

According to the election schedule, claims and objections regarding the draft polling station list will be accepted till May 15. All complaints and objections received during this period will be examined and resolved on May 16.

After completion of the verification and objection disposal process, the final list of polling stations for the Village Committee elections will be officially published on May 18.

The move is being viewed as a major step toward the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections, which are considered politically significant in the tribal areas of Tripura. Political parties and local organisations are closely monitoring the election preparations as the polls are expected to witness intense competition.

The State Election Commission is expected to announce further election-related guidelines, including polling dates and nomination schedules, in the coming weeks.
