Tripura STGT Recruitment Delay Sparks Candidate Protest

Frustration is mounting among candidates who successfully cleared the Special Teacher Graduate Teacher (STGT) examination in Tripura, as the recruitment process remains incomplete nearly four months after the declaration of results. On Wednesday, a delegation of successful aspirants met the Chairman of the Teachers' Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), demanding that document verification begin immediately and the appointment process be completed without further delay.

Candidates Allege Recruitment Process Has Come to a Standstill

The candidates claimed that although the STGT results were announced several months ago, the absence of document verification has effectively brought the recruitment exercise to a halt. They said the prolonged delay has left hundreds of qualified job seekers in uncertainty, making it difficult for them to plan their careers and future employment.

According to the delegation, the lack of a clear timeline has increased anxiety among aspirants who have been waiting for the next stage of the recruitment process.

Demand for Verification Schedule and Merit List Timeline

During the meeting, the candidates urged TRBT to immediately launch the verification process and issue a definite schedule for completing scrutiny of documents. They also requested the board to announce a timeline for publishing the final merit list so that appointments can be made at the earliest.

The aspirants said that prompt action by the recruitment board would bring an end to the prolonged uncertainty faced by successful candidates.

TRBT Chairman Explains Reasons Behind Delay

Responding to the concerns, TRBT Chairman Pratyush Ranjan Deb assured the delegation that every effort is being made to complete the pending recruitment process as quickly as possible. He stated that the Tripura Government has already instructed the board to publish the list of eligible candidates at the earliest.

Deb explained that TRBT has faced an exceptionally heavy workload this year. Since 2015, the board has generally conducted no more than two examinations annually. However, during the recent recruitment cycle, seven examinations were held within a relatively short period, significantly increasing administrative responsibilities.

He said that results for five examinations have already been declared, while work related to the remaining examinations, including TET and STGT, is progressing.

Verification Process Became More Complex

The TRBT Chairman further explained that document verification has become more time-consuming because of legal and administrative requirements. Following court directions related to TET certification, the board has been required to verify employment records and service details of several candidates, including those who had worked in institutions located outside Tripura.

He added that collecting and verifying records from other states has considerably extended the time required to complete the process.

Academic Responsibilities Also Affect Recruitment Work

Deb also noted that all members of the TRBT are college professors who remain engaged in academic responsibilities for much of the year. As a result, balancing recruitment work alongside teaching duties has created operational challenges.

Despite these constraints, he assured candidates that the board is working on a priority basis and aims to complete the remaining recruitment-related work, including publication of pending results and verification, before the upcoming Durga Puja.

Job Aspirants Are In Tension 

The delay in completing the STGT recruitment process has become a major concern for hundreds of aspiring teachers across Tripura. With vacancies yet to be filled and qualified candidates awaiting appointments, stakeholders are expecting TRBT to accelerate verification and issue the final merit list without further delay.
