Tripura: Tension Grips Kashba Border After Deadly BSF Firing

Two Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly killed after firing by the Border Security Force near the Pathariadwar border under Gopinathpur  in Kashba upazila of Brahmanbaria in Bangladesh late Friday night. The incident has sparked tension and widespread discussion in the border area.

The bodies of the deceased has been brought to the morgue of Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital for postmortem.

According to the local sources, a group of Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly attempted to transport goods illegally across the border when they were challenged by a BSF patrol team. During the encounter, BSF personnel allegedly opened fire, leaving several people injured.

Two critically injured persons were rushed to Bishalgarh Subdivisional Hospital, where doctors declared them dead after examination.

The deceased were identified as Md. Morsalin, 22, from Dhajnagar Batanbari village under Gopinathpur in Kashba upazila. He was reportedly studying at Shah Alam Degree College. The second deceased was Nabir Hossain, 40, a resident of Madhupur village.

Sources also claimed that several others sustained bullet injuries during the firing. Though their names could not be immediately confirmed, they were reportedly taken to Comilla for medical treatment.

Relatives of Morsalin alleged that a few local youths had called him from home during the night and took him towards the border area. Nabir Hossain and several others were also reportedly present there at the time.

Family members alleged that BSF opened fire, killing Morsalin on the spot. They further claimed that his body was later taken across to the Indian side of the border.

Nabir Hossain was reportedly taken away in injured condition and later succumbed while undergoing treatment.

A resident of Madhupur village, Md. Sabur, said he came to know about the deaths through local sources and later verified the information after contacting Nabir Hossain’s family.

Nabir’s son, Md. Tapan, said his father had left home in the evening and the family later received news of his death from different people.

Another villager, Ripon Pathan, said that BSF personnel opened fire when a group approached the barbed-wire fencing near the border. He claimed Morsalin was hit by bullets while others escaped despite injuries.

Chandidwar BGB camp commander Md. Moinuddin told reporters that they had received information regarding one death and that the overall border situation remained under control.
