Tripura TET Protest: 1,856 Candidates Seek Teacher Jobs

Candidates who qualified in the Tripura TET 2024
(TRBT) examination staged a protest in Agartala on Friday, demanding immediate recruitment as teachers in government schools. The protesters were stopped by police near Agartala Town Hall while they were marching towards the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha.
The TET 2024 qualified candidates said they have been seeking recruitment for nearly two years through repeated representations and protests before the Tripura Teachers Recruitment Board (TRBT), Education Department and Directorate of Elementary Education. However, they claimed that no concrete decision has yet been taken to complete the appointment process.
TET Qualified Candidates Question Recruitment Delay
The protesters argued that several schools across Tripura are facing a shortage of teachers, while a significant number of teaching positions remain vacant.
They questioned the delay in recruiting candidates who have already cleared the required examination and completed the subsequent verification process.
“If schools have vacant teaching posts and there is a shortage of teachers, why are TET-qualified candidates still waiting for appointment after two years?” one of the protesters asked.
According to the candidates, nearly 50,000 aspirants appeared in the previous TET examination. Following the verification process, around 1,856 candidates are reportedly left awaiting recruitment.
Age Limit Creates Concern Among TET Aspirants
The prolonged recruitment process has become a major concern for the remaining candidates because of the upper age limit applicable to government employment.
The protesters claimed that approximately 20 to 25 candidates have already crossed the age of 40, while several others are expected to reach the relevant age limit within about a month.
They fear that any further delay could prevent eligible TET-qualified candidates from applying for or securing government teaching jobs despite successfully completing the selection requirements.
Candidates Seek Immediate Recruitment, Not Relaxation
The protesters clarified that they are not asking the government to lower examination standards or provide concessions in qualifying marks.
Instead, they want the authorities to complete the recruitment process for candidates who have already cleared TET 2024 and passed the verification procedure.
They maintained that the pending recruitment should be completed within the shortest possible time.
TET Candidates Highlight Financial Hardship
The prolonged wait for government employment has also affected the financial condition of several candidates, according to the protesters.
Many aspirants said they had depended on private tuition to support themselves while waiting for teacher recruitment. However, they claimed that finding sufficient tuition work has also become increasingly difficult.
The candidates said the uncertainty surrounding recruitment has left them struggling to maintain their livelihoods while continuing to wait for an appointment.
Police Stop Protesters Near Agartala Town Hall
The protesters expressed dissatisfaction after police personnel prevented them from proceeding towards the Chief Minister’s residence.

They alleged that they were stopped before they could personally place their demands before Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The candidates said their objective was to seek government intervention for resolving the pending recruitment issue.
Demand for Regular Teacher Recruitment in Tripura
Apart from seeking immediate appointment of the 1,856 TET-qualified candidates, the protesters also demanded a regular system of teacher recruitment in Tripura.
They said filling vacant teaching posts would help address the shortage of teachers in government schools while also creating employment opportunities for qualified youth.
The TET 2024 candidates urged the state government to take an early decision and bring an end to the prolonged uncertainty surrounding their recruitment.
