Tripura Tourist Arrivals Rise 3.15% in FY 2025-26: Minister

Tripura witnessed a 3.15 percent increase in tourist arrivals during the 2025-26 financial year, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
The figures were presented on the opening day of the monsoon session of the Tripura Assembly, during which the Tourism Minister responded to questions raised by MLAs Tofajjal Hossain and Antara Sarkar Deb.
According to the minister, the state has continued to attract a growing number of visitors, with both domestic and international tourism contributing to Tripura's expanding tourism sector.
Tripura Tourist Arrivals Cross 7.29 Lakh
Chowdhury told the Assembly that Tripura received 5,45,299 tourists in 2023-24. This included 4,69,328 domestic tourists and 75,971 international visitors.
The number increased significantly in 2024-25, when the state recorded 7,07,173 tourist arrivals. Domestic visitors accounted for 6,27,705 of the total, while 79,468 were international tourists.
During the latest period cited by the minister, the total tourist footfall reached 7,29,414, comprising 7,10,243 domestic tourists and 19,171 foreign visitors.

The Tourism Minister said the latest figure represented a 3.15 percent year-on-year increase over 2024-25.

Tripura's tourism potential has also received attention through the state's official tourism platform and national tourism promotion initiatives.
Five Major Tripura Tourism Projects Underway
The Tourism Minister also highlighted the government's efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure across the state.
He said around 12 small and medium-sized tourism infrastructure projects had been developed, while work on five major projects with an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore is currently underway.

Four Tourism Projects Located in TTAADC Areas
Responding to a supplementary question from MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Chowdhury said four small and medium tourism project locations fall within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
However, he clarified that the state government has no proposal to transfer tourism projects developed by the state government to the TTAADC.
The clarification comes amid continued efforts to expand tourism infrastructure across different parts of Tripura, including areas under the autonomous district council.
Tourism Emerging as a Key Growth Sector in Tripura
The latest figures indicate continued growth in Tripura's visitor economy, while new tourism infrastructure could further strengthen the state's appeal among domestic and international travellers.
Tripura's tourism attractions include its royal heritage, archaeological sites, temples, natural landscapes and cultural destinations. The state's official tourism portal promotes the state as a destination for travel planning and visitor experiences.
