Tripura Truck Accident: Four Labourers Killed After Stone-Laden Vehicle Overturns in Dhalai District

Four labourers lost their lives and six others sustained injuries after a stone-laden truck overturned near the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Longtarai Valley subdivision of Tripura on Sunday, May 17.
According to Sonacharan Jamatia, the truck accident in Tripura occurred while the vehicle was travelling from Chawmanu towards the Biju Border Outpost carrying stone chips for border infrastructure development work.
Stone-Laden Truck Overturned on Steep Road in Longtarai Valley
Police officials said the fatal road accident took place on a steep and poorly maintained road in Tripura’s Dhalai district.
The truck reportedly failed to climb the uphill stretch, and while the driver attempted to reverse the heavy vehicle, it lost control and overturned on the roadside.
Labourers sitting on top of the stone-loaded truck were thrown off after the vehicle overturned, while large quantities of stone chips fell on them, trapping several workers beneath the debris.
Officials said passengers travelling inside the truck cabin survived the accident as they were protected from the collapsing stone load.
BSF Personnel Launch Rescue Operation After Tripura Road Accident
Personnel of the Border Security Force stationed near the Indo-Bangladesh border quickly reached the accident site and launched rescue operations after the truck overturned.
The injured labourers were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Doctors later confirmed that four labourers were brought dead to the hospital following the tragic Tripura truck accident.
Four Labourers Identified in Dhalai District Truck Accident
Authorities identified the deceased victims as Balidhanjoy Tripura (47), Majida Tripura (50), Bathojoy Tripura (39), and Narjoy Tripura (36).
Among the six injured labourers, one person remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police officials stated that most of the survivors were travelling inside the truck cabin at the time of the accident.
Investigation Begins Into Cause of Fatal Truck Accident in Tripura
Police have launched an investigation into the deadly truck accident in Tripura’s Longtarai Valley subdivision to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Authorities are also examining the condition of the road, vehicle safety measures and other factors linked to the fatal accident near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhalai district.
