Tripura VC Poll Notification on September 1: SEC

The Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has completed most of the preparations for the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee Election 2026, covering 5,873 seats across 587 Village Committees in the tribal areas of the state. The election is expected to be held in September.

The Supreme Court had directed that the long-pending TTAADC Village Committee elections be conducted in a single phase on September 27, 2026, based on the schedule proposed by the State Election Commission.

However, sources familiar with the latest preparations indicated that polling could potentially be shifted to September 28 due to certain administrative difficulties. The State Election Commission is expected to formally announce the election schedule on August 31.

SEC Holds All-Party Meeting Ahead of TTAADC Polls

State Election Commissioner Pradip Kumar Chakraborty said the commission is fully prepared to conduct the Village Committee elections. Political parties have already been briefed about the arrangements, while suggestions raised during discussions have also been examined by the commission.

The SEC has been conducting a series of preparatory activities ahead of the polls. Earlier, officials including BDOs and Additional BDOs who are expected to serve as Returning Officers were given training on election procedures, the Model Code of Conduct, counting arrangements and other responsibilities.

District Magistrates, BDOs to Handle Election Duties

As part of the administrative structure, District Magistrates will function as District Election Officers, while 52 Block Development Officers will serve as Returning Officers.

The State Election Commission has already held meetings with the District Magistrates and arranged training programmes for the Returning Officers to ensure that election procedures are implemented properly.

Security Arrangements Reviewed for Village Committee Polls

The SEC has also discussed the law-and-order situation with the police authorities. Security requirements, potential sensitive areas and measures for maintaining peace during polling have been reviewed as part of the election preparations.

Officials have indicated that additional forces from outside the state are not expected to be required. Locally available security personnel are likely to be deployed to maintain law and order during the election.

Election Materials Ready, Says State Election Commissioner

Chakraborty said the necessary election materials have been prepared and the remaining arrangements are being completed. He expressed confidence that the entire electoral exercise would be conducted smoothly.

Political parties have also assured the commission of their cooperation in maintaining a free, fair and peaceful election, he said.

The upcoming polls are significant for grassroots governance in Tripura's tribal areas, with 587 Village Committees and 5,873 seats involved in the electoral exercise. The SEC's preparations come after years of delay in holding the Village Committee elections.
