Tripura VC Polls 2026: Tipra Motha Claims 1,148 Uncontested Seats

The Tipra Motha Party has claimed a significant early advantage in the upcoming Tripura Village Committee (VC) Elections 2026, stating that its candidates have been elected uncontested in 1,148 seats across the state.

The Village Committee elections are scheduled for September 28, while the final picture of contestants will emerge after the withdrawal of nominations ends at 3 pm on September 11.

According to the party's assessment following scrutiny of nomination papers, Tipra Motha candidates have secured uncontested victories in nearly 25% of the 4,597 Village Committee seats.

The claim comes at a politically important moment, with BJP and Tipra Motha discussing election coordination, seat adjustments and campaign strategy ahead of the TTAADC Village Committee polls.

Tipra Motha's Strongest Uncontested Performance in Khowai

Khowai district has emerged as one of the major areas where Tipra Motha has reported a large number of uncontested victories.

The party has claimed 318 seats without opposition in the district.

The constituency-wise distribution cited by Tipra Motha includes:

  • Padmabil — 104 seats

  • Tulashikhar — 82 seats

  • Mungiakami — 67 seats

  • Kalyanpur — 37 seats

Among these, Padmabil recorded the highest number of uncontested Tipra Motha victories in Khowai.

Jampuijala Leads Sepahijala Unopposed Results

In Sepahijala district, Tipra Motha has claimed 263 uncontested seats.

The largest share comes from Jampuijala, where the party says its candidates have been elected without a contest in 212 seats.

Another 35 seats have reportedly gone uncontested in Charilam.

Jampuijala therefore currently has the highest block-wise number of uncontested seats claimed by Tipra Motha.

West Tripura Records 391 Tipra Motha Uncontested Seats

The party has reported an even larger figure from West Tripura district, where it claims 391 candidates have secured uncontested victories.

The reported breakup is:

  • Hejamara — 149 seats

  • Belbari — 109 seats

  • Mandai — 91 seats

  • Lefunga — 80 seats

Hejamara ranks second among the blocks with the highest number of uncontested Tipra Motha victories, after Jampuijala.

1,179 Seats Reportedly Have No Contest

According to the figures released by the party, a total of 1,179 seats currently have no contest.

Of these, the BJP is reported to have secured 31 seats uncontested, while Tipra Motha claims the remaining 1,148 seats.

The figures, however, are based on the current status following scrutiny and remain subject to the completion of the nomination withdrawal process.

The State Election Commission remains the authority responsible for conducting the Village Committee election process. Official rules provide for the State Election Commission to supervise and conduct Village Committee elections.

September 11 Withdrawal Deadline Crucial for Tripura VC Polls

State Election Commissioner Dr Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty said on Thursday that the withdrawal process is still underway.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations until 3 pm on September 11.

After the deadline, Returning Officers will prepare the final list of contesting candidates.

Under the applicable election rules, the List of Contesting Candidates will be issued through Form-7 and displayed by the concerned Returning Officer before being forwarded to the State Election Commission.

This final list will determine how many Village Committee seats actually go to a vote on September 28.

Ballot Papers to Be Used in Village Committee Elections

The State Election Commissioner also said that the Tripura Village Committee elections will be conducted through ballot papers.

Ballot papers will be printed after the final list of contesting candidates has been prepared on the basis of Form-7.

The official election rules also provide for polling stations and ballot-paper-based voting in Village Committee elections.

BJP and Tipra Motha Discuss Election Coordination

The nomination figures come amid talks between the BJP and Tipra Motha over their strategy for the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Discussions have reportedly focused on seat sharing, candidate coordination and withdrawal of nominations from additional seats.

The broader objective is to avoid situations where candidates supported by alliance partners compete against one another and divide votes.

The BJP and Tipra Motha have already emerged as important forces in Tripura's tribal political landscape. Recent reports have highlighted discussions between senior leaders of both parties ahead of the Village Committee elections.

Ratan Lal Nath Explains Separate BJP-Tipra Motha Candidates

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister and senior BJP leader Ratan Lal Nath, along with Minister Sushant Chowdhury, attended Thursday's coordination meeting from the BJP side.

Tipra Motha was represented by MLA Ranjit Debbarma and TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma.

When asked why Tipra Motha candidates were contesting independently in some seats, Nath said that although BJP and Tipra Motha are partners in the state government, electoral strategies can differ from one election to another.

He described the decision as part of the political strategy adopted for the particular election.

BJP Leader Attacks Opposition's Tribal Poll Strategy

Nath also questioned the ability of the CPI(M) and Congress to field candidates in the tribal areas.

He argued that if independent candidates were able to submit nominations, opposition parties should also have been able to put forward candidates within the prescribed deadline.

The BJP leader attributed the opposition's limited presence in tribal areas to what he described as a lack of public support.

He further argued that extending the nomination deadline would not necessarily have enabled the opposition parties to field a large number of additional candidates.

BJP-Tipra Motha Strategy Focuses on Preventing Vote Split

The two parties also discussed possible withdrawal of nominations from seats where more than one alliance-linked candidate has entered the contest.

Campaign coordination is another key component of the proposed strategy.

The intention is to concentrate alliance support behind the candidate considered best positioned to win a particular seat, thereby reducing the possibility of vote splitting between BJP and Tipra Motha-backed candidates.

September 28 Tripura VC Polls: Final Contest Yet to Be Known

The September 28 Tripura Village Committee election is expected to be an important test of the political balance in the state's tribal areas.

Tipra Motha's claimed 1,148 uncontested victories give the party a substantial early advantage, but the final number of uncontested seats and contested seats will only become clear after the September 11 nomination withdrawal deadline.

The latest developments also come against the backdrop of intense political activity surrounding the TTAADC Village Committee elections, with BJP and Tipra Motha coordination becoming a major focus of attention.

The Tripura Village Committee polls will therefore be closely watched not only for their local governance implications but also for what they may signal about the evolving BJP–Tipra Motha political relationship in Tripura.
