Officials of the State Election Department also participated in the meeting.

The training assumes added importance because procedural lapses and complaints concerning election officials have emerged during previous electoral exercises. The Commission is therefore seeking to strengthen preparedness among officials before the Village Committee election process begins.

587 Village Committee Seats Await Polling

With 587 Village Committee seats expected to go to the electorate, the forthcoming polls will be a significant political and administrative exercise in Tripura's tribal areas.

The State Election Commission is expected to announce the detailed election programme after completing the necessary preparations. The schedule will determine the dates for nomination filing, scrutiny, withdrawal, polling and counting.

Under Tripura's Village Committee election framework, the State Election Commission oversees the preparation and revision of electoral rolls and conducts Village Committee elections.

The renewed preparations have consequently put the long-awaited Village Committee polls back in focus, with political parties, prospective candidates and voters now awaiting the formal announcement of the election dates.
