US President Donald Trump has postponed a planned military attack on Iran that was expected on Tuesday after Gulf nations including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE urged Washington to allow more time for diplomatic negotiations.
Trump said serious talks are underway and claimed a new agreement acceptable to both the United States and West Asian countries could soon be finalized.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said he instructed US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Daniel Kane and the American military to suspend the planned strike on Iran.
However, Trump warned that the United States military remains fully prepared to launch a large-scale attack if negotiations fail in the coming days.
The US President stressed that the most important condition of any future agreement is preventing Iran from developing or possessing nuclear weapons.
