US Launches Massive Airstrikes on Iran Despite Ceasefire; Tehran Claims Retaliatory Strikes on American Bases

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply early Wednesday after the United States (U.S) carried out a large-scale military operation against Iran, even as a ceasefire remained in effect. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), precision-guided strikes were launched against more than 80 military facilities across Iran.

Washington said the operation was a direct response to attacks on three commercial vessels passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The US administration has blamed Iran for the incidents, describing them as a serious threat to international maritime security.

The American military campaign reportedly focused on critical defense installations and strategic assets, including:

  • Air defense systems
  • Command and control centers
  • Coastal radar installations
  • Surface-to-air missile batteries
  • Anti-ship missile launch sites
  • Drone launch facilities
  • More than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military boats

Iranian media reported powerful explosions and fires in Sirik, Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas shortly after the strikes, indicating significant damage in the country's southern coastal region.
