A major incident of vandalism at the Sipahijala Wildlife Sanctuary has come to light, triggering widespread concern and sensation in the surrounding areas.
The incident occurred in the Parimal Chaumuhani Baradhepa area under the Uttar Charilam Panchayat in Tripura’s Sipahijala district.
According to local sources, new cement pillars and robust fencing had been installed in the sanctuary area just 15 days ago to safeguard wildlife and prevent illegal encroachment.
However, this newly constructed infrastructure became the target of miscreants.
Allegedly, unidentified individuals demolished the fencing and cement pillars over a stretch of approximately 2 to 3 kilometers late on Thursday night. Preliminary estimates suggest that government property worth several lakhs of rupees has been damaged.
The incident has sparked panic and anger among local residents. Many believe the vandalism was premeditated and have demanded that those responsible be identified swiftly and brought to justice.
Upon receiving information, officials from the administration and the Forest Department rushed to the site to assess the extent of the damage. An investigation into the incident has already been initiated. Additionally, authorities are considering strengthening security measures in the area to prevent such occurrences in the future.
