Vinod Kambli at Old age Centre, Video Goes Viral

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has once again become the centre of public attention after a video showing him at an elderly care facility in Thane surfaced on social media.

The video, which began circulating widely on September 25, 2026, shows Kambli speaking from the Nidan Centre for Elderly Care in Thane. In the footage, the former India batter speaks positively about the care he is receiving and praises the centre's cleanliness, facilities and the affection shown to him by people there. Recent reports identify Nidan as the facility where Kambli is currently staying.

Kambli's appearance has prompted a strong reaction from cricket fans, many of whom have expressed concern about his health while also wishing the former international cricketer a steady recovery.

Vinod Kambli Praises Care at Nidan Centre

In the viral recording, Kambli introduces himself and talks about his experience at Nidan. He says that he has received considerable affection and care at the facility and that the surroundings make him feel comfortable.

He also speaks positively about the hygiene and facilities available at the centre.

The video has attracted particular attention because Kambli has remained away from the cricketing spotlight for several years and has faced a number of health-related challenges.

Reports published in recent days say that the 54-year-old is currently staying at the Thane care facility.

Kambli's Health Has Remained a Concern

Kambli's health has been closely followed by the cricketing community. His condition became a major topic of discussion after a series of public appearances in which he appeared to have difficulty walking without assistance.

He was also hospitalised in Thane in late 2024 following multiple medical complications. More recent reports have discussed continuing concerns surrounding his memory and mobility.

In April 2026, Kambli's longtime friend Marcus Couto told The Times of India that the former cricketer had experienced memory problems and had stopped drinking but continued to struggle with smoking. Couto also said Kambli had been receiving support from friends and former cricketers.

However, there have also been differing public accounts of Kambli's health. His wife, Andrea Hewitt, previously disputed some reports concerning his condition and said that incorrect information about his health was being circulated.

From Cricket Prodigy to India Star

Kambli was regarded as one of the most naturally gifted Indian batsmen of his generation. He represented India in 17 Test matches and 104 ODIs.

In Test cricket, he accumulated 1,084 runs, including four centuries. His ODI career produced 2,477 runs, with two hundreds and 14 half-centuries.

His Test career included two successive double centuries in 1993. He scored 224 against England in Mumbai before making 227 against Zimbabwe in Delhi, underlining his extraordinary batting ability during the early phase of his international career.

Kambli's international career eventually ended in 2000. He later continued to feature in domestic cricket and made his final domestic appearance in 2004.

Across first-class cricket, he amassed 9,665 runs, with a highest score of 262.

Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar's Historic Friendship

Kambli's name is inseparably linked with that of Sachin Tendulkar.

The two Mumbai cricketers were childhood friends and trained together during their school years under renowned coach Ramakant Achrekar. Their partnership became famous when they represented Sharadashram Vidyamandir.

In a remarkable school match, Tendulkar and Kambli put together a 664-run partnership, one of the most famous partnerships in the history of school cricket.

Kambli contributed an unbeaten 349 to that record stand, while Tendulkar also produced a huge individual score.

Their performances quickly established them as two of Mumbai's most exciting young batting prospects.

Tendulkar made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai in 1988, while Kambli followed a year later in 1989.

Kambli's Emotional World Cup Exit in 1996

One of the most memorable and emotional moments of Kambli's international career came during the 1996 World Cup semi-final between India and Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Sri Lanka batted first and posted 251 runs. India began its chase strongly and reached 98 for the loss of one wicket, putting the hosts in a promising position.

The match changed dramatically after Tendulkar was dismissed.

India collapsed rapidly, losing eight wickets before reaching 120. The atmosphere inside Eden Gardens became increasingly tense as India's hopes of reaching the World Cup final faded.

With India needing 132 runs from 89 deliveries, Kambli was at the crease alongside Anil Kumble.

The situation then deteriorated when spectators began throwing bottles onto the playing surface. Parts of the stadium also witnessed unrest, making it impossible for the match to continue normally.

The game was eventually stopped and Sri Lanka were awarded the victory.

Kambli was visibly devastated. As the Indian players left the field, cameras captured him in tears, creating one of the most poignant images of India's 1996 World Cup campaign.

Kambli's Life Away From International Cricket

Kambli's personal journey has also attracted considerable attention over the years.

He married Noella Lewis in 1998, but their marriage later ended in divorce.

He subsequently married fashion model Andrea Hewitt. The couple have two children, and their son Jesus Cristiano was born in June 2010.

Despite the difficulties Kambli has faced away from cricket, his achievements on the field remain an important part of India's cricketing history.

Viral Video Brings Kambli Back Into Spotlight

The latest video from the Nidan Centre has renewed public interest in Kambli's life and health.

Rather than focusing only on his past cricketing achievements, the footage has prompted fans to pay attention to his present circumstances. Kambli himself appears appreciative of the care and affection he says he has received at the Thane facility.

For a cricketer who once represented India on the biggest international stage and shared a historic friendship with Sachin Tendulkar, the latest images have naturally generated an emotional response among cricket followers.

For now, the most recent reports indicate that Kambli is staying at the Nidan Centre for Elderly Care in Thane, while his supporters continue to hope for his health and recovery.
