West Tripura SIR 2026: Voter List Revision Starts September 5

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in West Tripura district will begin on September 5, 2026, with the final revised voter list scheduled to be published on December 23.
West Tripura District Election Officer and District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar announced the schedule at a press conference held at Sonartari State Guest House. The Additional District Magistrate and Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate were also present.
The voter-roll revision is aimed at improving the accuracy and inclusiveness of the electoral register by ensuring that eligible voters are included while preventing ineligible entries from remaining on the list. This is also the stated objective of the Election Commission of India's SIR exercise.
West Tripura SIR 2026: Important Dates
The district administration has outlined a multi-stage schedule for the Special Intensive Revision:
- September 5: Training, planning and preparatory activities begin
- September 15 to October 14: Door-to-door voter verification
- October 21: Draft electoral roll to be published
- October 21 to November 20: Period for filing claims and objections
- October 21 to December 19: Hearing and disposal of claims and objections
- December 23: Final electoral roll to be published
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake household visits during the verification phase and distribute the required forms to voters.
BLOs to Conduct Door-to-Door Verification
The district administration will begin preparations for house-to-house verification from September 5. BLOs will subsequently visit households across their respective polling areas between September 15 and October 14.

Residents have been advised to remain in contact with their designated BLOs and cooperate during the verification process. Any voter requiring assistance can approach the helpdesks being established by the district administration.
The Election Commission's SIR framework similarly places emphasis on detailed electoral-roll verification and ensuring that no eligible elector is left out.
Draft Voter List on October 21
Once the household verification process is completed, the draft voter list will be released on October 21.
Citizens will then have an opportunity to examine the draft electoral roll and submit claims or objections between October 21 and November 20.
Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) will examine the submissions and conduct the required proceedings through December 19. The final electoral roll will subsequently be issued on December 23.
Helpdesks and Voter Helpline 1950
To assist residents during the SIR exercise, helpdesks will operate at the offices of the District Magistrate and Sub-Divisional Magistrates beginning September 5.

The district administration has also highlighted the 1950 voter helpline as an additional channel through which citizens can seek assistance during the revision exercise.
Voters have been urged to use these facilities if they face difficulties during verification or have questions concerning their electoral-roll entries.
The Election Commission's voter services platform also provides online facilities connected with SIR 2026, including enumeration-related services and voter-roll searches.
West Tripura Has 14 Assembly Constituencies
West Tripura district comprises Sadar, Mohanpur and Jirania subdivisions and has 14 Assembly constituencies.
The district's election administration currently includes:
- 14 Electoral Registration Officers
- 42 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers
- 57 Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers
- 82 BLO Supervisors
- 795 Booth Level Officers
The district currently has 795 polling stations.
As part of the proposed polling-station reorganisation for 2025-26, authorities have proposed the addition of 67 new polling stations. Proposals have also been made to reorganise 32 sections and shift seven polling stations to different locations.
6.99 Lakh Voters in West Tripura
According to the district administration, West Tripura currently has 6,99,429 registered voters.
Of this total, 6,38,320 voters, or 91.26%, have already been mapped. Another 61,109 voters remain outside the existing mapping coverage.
The mapping and verification exercise will therefore be an important component of the SIR process.
Why the West Tripura SIR Matters
The Special Intensive Revision is intended to strengthen the electoral roll by identifying eligible voters who need to be included while addressing entries that may no longer meet eligibility requirements.
The Election Commission has described the fundamental purpose of SIR as ensuring that no eligible citizen is excluded and no ineligible person is included in the electoral roll.
