Accuse Of Stealing Money: Woman Publicly Harassed In Agartala

A panchayat member from Shanmura area of ​​Agartala in West Tripura District was charged with inciting a mob to publicly harass a woman accused of stealing money from a local shop on Monday. 

Police have started an investigation into the incident based on media reports and social media footage, however, no one has been arrested so far. 

According to the news reports, local panchayat member Shuklal Das summoned the victim woman and her son to the Kangaroo Court after accusing them of theft. 

When the woman and her minor son came there, the mob led by the accused man stripped them and beat them up.

Police later rescued the woman and her son and admitted them to Agartala Government Hospital. 

The police recorded the victim’s statement and started an investigation based on it to find out the gang involved in the crime, but no results were found. 

The victim said the police that her son and two other minors had stolen money from a shop to buy liquor.

Locals caught them and later released two of them, but they asked the woman and her son to appear in a kangaroo court before panchayat member Das. 

Meanwhile, sources in the secretariat said that Chief Minister Manik Saha raised objections to the incident and asked the police chief to register a case against all those involved in the crime without any other consideration and deal strictly with the accused.
