Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, which got lucky in its third attempt in Bihar assembly election 2020, has considerable influence in Kochadhaman, Kishanganj, Amour, Bahadurganj, Baisi, Thakurganj and Jokihat constituencies in Seemanchal, out of which it has won five seats. It is because of this that Owaisi mainly targeted the RJD-Congress combination during most of his election rallies. He had blamed the RJD-Congress combination for neglecting the region for a long time. Owaisi also raised issues such as NRC-CAA in his campaign rallies. AIMIM strikes 12.2 percent vote in Bihar assembly election. Party now looking to spread its wings to states such as Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. “I will fight in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and will fight every election in the country… Do I need to ask anyone’s permission to fight the polls,” he said when asked after result of Bihar election, whether the party would contest in any other state. The party’s victory in five seats has become inconsequential in terms of lending support in case of hung- assembly as NDA emerged as the clear winner. Asauddin Owaisi’s attempt to enter West Bengal politics and his earlier attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will over the alleged backward condition of Muslims in the state will end up benefiting BJP, says political analysts. However, according to the analysts the AIMIM does not have any foothold in Bengal and it will be very difficult for them to enter into Bengal politics. But undoubtedly Owaisi has some influence among the minority community as he was vocal on issues such as the Babri Masjid demolition.
