Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey along with army officers met Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
Army Chief General Pandey arrived in Manipur on Saturday for a two-day visit. Here he reviewed the law and order situation.
In the past, there was violence in the state, due to which many private properties including government property were also burnt to ashes.
Gen Pandey landed at Tikendrajit Imphal International Airport along with Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, the Eastern Command chief.
The Army Chief discussed with the Governor the present situation and future of the State. They discussed normalizing the condition of the state.
An army official said that General Pandey has come to Imphal to review the situation created due to ethnic conflict. The General will also meet the Chief Minister and the Security Advisor to take stock of the situation.
Apart from this, the army chief will meet the officers of the security forces and review the law and order situation. General Pandey will leave for Delhi on Sunday.
Whereas, the lieutenant general will leave from here after the program of Home Minister Amit Shah.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given a big statement on Thursday regarding the violence-hit Manipur.
The Home Minister said for the first time, on behalf of the Central Government, I want to assure all the people of the state that justice will be done to all. We will not spare those who commit violence. He said, first both the groups should decide to make peace.
Majority Meitei community of Manipur is demanding to get Scheduled Tribe status. They say that they should be included in the ST category.
In protest against this, they took out a tribal solidarity march. Violence broke out in Churachandpur and Torbang areas during the march.
According to the data of the Ministry of Defense, so far about 23 thousand people have been sent to secure military cantonments.
About 10,000 personnel of paramilitary forces as well as central police have been deployed in the area.
It is being claimed that around 60 people have died in the clash. Curfew was also imposed in the area to bring the situation under control.
