Asian Games 2023 : With 18 Gold, India Achieve Historic 1st In 72 Years

A momentous day in Indian sport! And it’s the Indian athletes who ushered in the historic day. India started the day at Asian Games 2023 on 69 medals, and ended on 81 medals – India’s highest-ever medal tally at the continental event.

India on Wednesday created a new record for winning the most gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Games. 

India’s star javelin throw athlete Neeraj Chopra won the 17th gold medal for India by throwing a throw of 88.88 meters in the men’s javelin throw competition in Hangzhou, China. 

On the basis of which India broke its five year old record.

India had won 16 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta and Palembang, which was the highest number of gold medals for India in a single Asian Games season at that time.

Before Neeraj, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Pravin Deotale won gold medals in the compound mixed team archery event, helping India equal 2018’s tally of 16 gold medals. 

And then Chopra broke that record by winning the gold medal in the javelin throw competition.

After this, the Indian quartet of Anas Muhammad Yahiya  (Muhammed Anas) , Amoj Jacob ( Amoj Jacob) , Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi (Muhammed Ajmal)  and Rajesh Ramesh  (Rajesh Ramesh)  won the gold medal in the men’s 4×400 meter relay and India’s gold medal tally Reached 18.

Indian players have shown a much better game this time than every time. Like every time, this time the Indian team had reached the games with the hope of winning a flurry of medals. Whatever happened in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China has been recorded in the pages of history. 

India gave its best performance in the history of the Games and created a record of winning the most gold. The record of winning the most medals was also broken on the 11th day of the Games.

India won 69 medals in the 10 days of Asian Games. On the 11th day, the players together won a total of 12 medals for the country. 

In this, Neeraj Chopra won gold medal in Javelin Throw, Compound Archery: Mixed Team Event, and the men’s team won gold medal in 4×400 relay race. India won 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals in the 11th day’s play.
