Due to the state government and Agartala Municipal Corporation AMC the livelihood of poor people is affected ahead of Durga Puja. Therefore, the leadership of the Congress Sadar District Committee has decided to start a movement against it.
A meeting was organized in this regard on Wednesday at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan.
After the meeting, state Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha said that:
“The state government has imposed financial burden on the people by increasing the electricity tariff. And Agartala Municipal Corporation has brought brutal oppression on small businessmen of city Agartala before Puja. The mayor is demolishing shops”
“They don’t caring even after having license. The Congress had earlier warned the state government and the AMC against it. Yet the Congress has announced a movement against such barbaric activities. Movement will be organized in every district to protest the increase in electricity tariff. Besides, Sadar District Congress will organize Agartala Municipal Corporation Abhiyan on October 7”.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Congress Sadar District Committee Manoranjan Debnath said that the current state government has created a horrible environment. Commodity prices are increasing by leaps and bounds. It has no control. Youths are plagued with unemployment.
“There is no employment. The economic situation has collapsed across the country. Among these, the state government has recently increased the electricity tariff and the Agartala Municipal Corporation has increased the property tax by three to four times. People don’t have money. On top of that, there is an eviction drive in the city area in the name of cleaning the city by using force at the time of puja” He said.
