BBM College, Agartala: Students Locked Principal On Various Demands

The college authorities are not issuing identity cards to the students of Bir Bikram Memorial College for four years. On the other hand there is an acute shortage of drinking water and non-employment of sweepers. As a result, the students had to struggle to take the exam due to the stench of the college toilet.

Bringing these allegations to the fore, the acting principal of BBM College, Ratan Deb, was locked in the room by the college students supported by the Akhil Bharati Vidyarthi Parishad ABVP. ABVP also staged protest on Monday.

The students of the college said that for the last four years no identity card is being issued to the students of the college. There is not enough drinking water in the college. Also there is no sweeper in the college. This has been reported to the acting principal of the college several times. But nothing happen.

So on Monday they are forced to protest. After a long protest, a delegation from the students went to the principal’s office and handed over their memorandum to the principal.

Acting principal of the college Ratan Deb said some pipes were stolen from the college recently. So the water problem has arisen. Initiatives have already been taken to rectify the problem. However, the matter of appointing a sweeper is not in his hands. The department has been informed about this earlier. Thirdly, there is no money in the college fund to issue identity cards to the college students. Most of the colleges in Agartala city do not issue identity cards.

But he said if any  college gives the identity card, after knowing the details of how they gave it, he will take the initiative.

The students withdrew the agitation after receiving assurance from the principal.
