BGB Resists Fencing Work At Sabroom. Flag Meet Failed. Section 144 Imposed

Tension ran high at Sabroom following attempted border fencing works on Wednesday. So volatile the situation was that the local shops of sabroom were kept closed in apprehension of further unrest. There was no solution in the flag meeting between BSF & BGB. As a result there was no clear message from the administration as to when the situation would return to normal. On the contrary the sub divisional administration imposed restrictions on religious gatherings and gatherings of 500 meter radius of the Sabroom border. Reportedly on January 12 the Chief Secretary Tripura was informed by the Ministry of Home Affairs that the remaining 5.58 km border fencing work in the town of Sabroom to be completed by February. The border fencing work from pillar number 2217/ IRI to 2217/3RI was started on January 15. But was stopped due to objection of Bangladesh. Local people expressed their displeasure over the decision of Sub Divisional Administration and chanted slogans in protest.
