Bilonia Land Port Inaugurated

State Minister for Shipping of Bangladesh Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated Bilonia Land Port in Parashuram Upazila of Feni.

Speaking on this occasion he said that the development of 14 land ports out of 24 land ports has already been completed and operational activities have been launched to make the possibility of international trade by land a reality.

‘Bilonia land port’ in Parashuram upazila of Feni district is one.

It is known that Bilonia land port started its operation on October 4, 2009 with the aim of expanding trade with the neighboring country India.

The port established in the border area of Parashuram Upazila is the only export-oriented port in Bangladesh. It plays a supporting role in the export of Bangladeshi products to seven states of North East India including Tripura.

Bricks, sand, cement, stone, rods, bricks, lime and garments are exported through this port.

However, due to one-way trade, the port lags far behind in infrastructure development.

Later, the ‘Bilonia Land Port Development (Special Revised)’ project was approved at a cost of Tk 38.64 lakh 34 thousand financed by the World Bank and the Government of Bangladesh.

On April 20, 2018, the then shipping minister Shajahan Khan laid the foundation stone of the project for infrastructural development on 10 acres around the port.
